Our Mission Pillars at Work

Last year, with the support of our generous donors, Komen LA County provided educational resources at 68 community events/health fairs and facilitated 3,962 mammogram screenings.

We thank our supporters for investing in our mission – to help us do more for research, more for our communities, more for caring for those living with breast cancer – including metastatic breast cancer – and more action to get us to a cure.

Did You Know…

75% of our net income funds grants to LA County hospitals and community organizations that provide social support services and patient navigation services.

25% of our net income supports the National Research Program, which funds groundbreaking breast cancer research, educational and scientific programs around the world.

Small Grants

Susan G. Komen LA County offers small grants to non-profit organizations for unexpected program needs or recently designed projects. Funding is available anytime throughout Komen’s fiscal year on a first come first served basis. These small grants are made as a creative and flexible way to get much needed help to our local community and allow the Affiliate to be more responsive to community requests. If your organization has a need for a small grant, please contact us at smallgrants@komenlacounty.org

Breast Cancer 101 Interactive Tool

Susan G. Komen’s Breast Cancer 101 Interactive tool has been updated with new graphics and content for a new modern look and feel.

Each section now has a chapter overview to assist the user in finding the information they are looking for within the tool. This tool provides an audiovisual experience that enables users to learn about the breast cancer continuum of care in an interactive way.

This is a great complementary tool to the About Breast Cancer content found on komen.org. This tool is also available in Spanish.

Real Life. Real Talk. Real Friends.

In the Company of Friends, hosted by breast cancer survivor, actress and producer, Vanessa Bell Calloway, is an intimate talk show empowering women to take charge of their health. Produced in collaboration with Susan G. Komen®, In The Company Of Friends helps to educate and inspire viewers to understand their breast cancer risk and engage with information and tools that can ultimately promote early detection. 

In the Company of Friends encourages all people to embrace a healthy lifestyle, providing inspiration to make healthy choices. Fans can expect to see candid conversations with Vanessa Bell Calloway and her famous friends, with guest appearances from Tina Knowles Lawson, Nischelle Turner (Entertainment Tonight) Essence Atkins (Am­bitions), Shanola Hampton (Shameless), Denise Boutte (Her Only Choice), Shaun Robinson (S.H.A.U.N. Foundation) and Sheryl Lee Ralph (Fam). 

In the Company of Friends will debut in August on Instagram TV (IGTV), a dedicated place for shows on Instagram, and now a global community of one billion. IGTV is designed to showcase long-form, vertical video from your favor­ite Instagram creators, like Bell Calloway, and a dynamic platform where people can find new shows, catch up on the ones they follow, and form communities of fans.

New episodes of In the Company of Friends will appear on Mondays, beginning August 19. Then, tune in on Wednes­days starting August 19 for a Facebook Live with Vanessa and friends. This year marks the 19th anniversary of Wacoal's Fit for the Cure® program benefiting Susan G. Komen®!

Wacoal's Fit for the Cure program benefits Komen in four ways:
  1. Jan 1 - Dec 31, 2019: For every woman professionally fitted at an event, Wacoal will donate $2 to Komen.
  2. Jan 1 - Dec 31, 2019: Wacoal will also donate $2 for every Wacoal bra, shapewear item or b.tempt'd bra purchased at an event.
  3. October promotion: $2 will be donated to Komen for each Awareness Bra sold in stores and online at Wacoal-America.com during October.
  4. Social Media Promotion: Jan 1 - Dec 31, 2019, Wacoal will donate $1 for every picture posted to Facebook, Twitter or Instagram that features an "I Got Fit" sign in the picture and is tagged with #IGotFit.
