MORE THAN PINK Walk Family & Friends Team Challenge Winner - We Are As One
Congratulations to Maribel, Team Captain of We
Are As One, for
winning the first Family & Friends Team Challenge by having the highest
number of new registered Walkers! Maribel won gift certificates to Benny’s
Tacos for a dine in or catered experience! Thank you to Benny’s Tacos for this generous
donation to kick off the first Family & Friends Team Challenge!
Maribel has an incredible story and attributes
her team as to the reason why she fights, has faith and believes that she’s
going to be okay. She works at the Cecilia Gonzalez De La Hoya Cancer Center at
Adventist Health White Memorial Medical Center. In December of 2018, Maribel
was diagnosed with breast cancer by their own nurse practitioner. When Maribel
was diagnosed, she decided she wanted her colleagues to take care of her because
they were part of her family. Her infusion nurse administered her chemo and she
received radiation treatment at her job as well. Maribel knew her colleagues
would see her with no hair, sick and no breasts (she had a double mastectomy), but
she wouldn’t have it any other way because she knew she was in great hands.
Maribel has the love and support from her
family including her husband, 2 daughters, parents, brothers, sisters-in-law,
cousins, aunts and uncles, all who have been by her side. Her team – colleagues, family and friends – continues to be her reason for smiling in the last year.
Questions to Ask Your Doctor
The
Questions to Ask the Doctor About Breast Cancer series includes 16 topic
cards on a variety of breast cancer issues. Each card contains pertinent
questions to discuss with your doctor regarding a specific breast cancer topic.
You can download and print the cards and bring them with you to your next
doctor's appointment. Plenty of space is provided to jot down the answers to
the questions. These topic cards are a valuable tool for women who have been
recently diagnosed with breast cancer, who may be too overwhelmed to even know
where to begin to start gathering information. These topic cards are also available in
Spanish.
